I don't plan to lease a car but sales reps keep giving me SmartBuy prices. Isn't that the same thing as leasing?
A SmartBuy is not a lease. SmartBuy is like a lease because monthly payments can be lower than traditional financing. You are paying only for the part of the car you are using. You can drive more vehicle for your money and drive a new vehicle more often. However, with SmartBuy, you own the vehicle, not the leasing company, which means you have several options at the end of your contract. You can make a final balloon payment that allows you to keep or sell your vehicle. Or, you can walk away from the vehicle for just a small disposal fee and any excess wear and tear changes. SmartBuy prices are also often quoted because of favorable incentive programs that may be available to you from the manufacturer. Should I lease or buy my vehicle?
The answer is – it depends. It's not possible to simply say that one is always better than the other because the answer depends on the specifics of each individual situation. Leases and purchase loans are simply two different methods of automobile financing. One finances the use of a vehicle; the other finances the purchase of a vehicle. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks. When making a 'lease or buy' decision you must look not only at financial comparisons but also at your own personal priorities — what's important to you.

    Consider leasing if:
  • You want a lower monthly payment that traditional financing. Leasing usually requires less upfront costs as well.
  • You want to drive a new vehicle more often. Lease terms are usually shorter than traditional financing.
  • You want to lower your maintenance costs. You are driving your vehicle during its most trouble free years.
  • You want to avoid trade in obligations. You can turn in your vehicle at the end of the term and walk away as long as you have met all of the terms of your lease.
    Consider buying if:
  • You want to own your vehicle at the end of the term with no further obligations.
  • You want to keep the vehicle for as long as you want, with no time limit to trade your vehicle.
  • You want no mileage restrictions. Some leasing contracts may have mileage limits with excess mileage charges.
  • You want to change the appearance of your vehicle or your vehicle may be subject to some rough conditions. Most leasing contracts may have condition requirements at the end of the lease.

  • We invest in the latest factory tools and most advanced diagnostic equipment. Our technicians are constantly trained in the latest repair techniques, making them the best qualified to keep your vehicle running its best. Dealership technicians receive vehicle information before anyone else.
  • We use genuine GM parts, designed for your vehicle, and covered by a warranty, some for as long as you own your vehicle.
  • We are qualified to know if any needed repairs are covered by your warranty, possibly saving you hundreds of dollars if repairs are performed by a non-factory service center.
  • We automatically check for open manufacturer’s recalls or service bulletins for your vehicle, possibly saving you from future costly repairs or inconveniences.
  • We maintain your service records, simplifying the warranty claims process should you have a repair that should be covered under your warranty.
  • We perform a complimentary 27-point Multi-Point Inspection.
  • Not only do the above reasons benefit you while you are driving your vehicle, but well-cared-for vehicles often generate higher resale values when you trade your vehicle in. Schedule an appointment.

I have a car with the new GM 5 year / 100,000 Mile Powertrain Warranty. Don’t I get a rental car when I bring it in for service?
Courtesy Transportation is included for 5 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first, on all 2007 passenger cars and light-duty trucks. Whenever warranty repairs are required, several transportation options and/or reimbursement of certain transportation expenses are available for your convenience.

My new car is equipped with the GM Oil Life System. Does that mean that I don’t have to worry about changing my oil every 3,000 miles like I used to?
Beginning in 2004, most GM vehicles were equipped with the GM Oil Life System (GMOLS). The system informs the driver when maintenance is required based on driving conditions, not on a predetermined time or mileage basis. With the GM Oil Life System the vehicle actually senses engine speed and temperature, and the computer continuously monitors engine operating conditions to determine when it's time to change the oil.

You should have your vehicle’s oil changed within 600 miles of the odometer reading at the time the change oil light or message first illuminates. Immediately after the oil change, reset the system according to instructions in your Owner’s Manual.

If you prefer to continue to change your oil every 3,000 miles and your vehicle has not notified you that you are due for an oil change yet, you are welcome to do so. Be sure, however to reset the system when you change the oil, even if the GM Oil Life System light/message has not illuminated.

What if I forget to reset the GM Oil Life System after my oil change?
Since the GM Oil Life System does not actually sense oil condition, it is important that the engine computer knows when your vehicle has had an oil change. It registers this information through the reset operation described in your Owner’s Manual. The change oil light or message will illuminate at the start-up until the system is reset. The more miles you drive without resetting the system, the more inaccurate the GM Oil Life System will be. If you drive more than 500 miles after an oil change without resetting the GM Oil Life System, you should default your oil-change interval back to 3,000 miles until you get your next oil change.

What is included in the Multipoint Inspection?
With your Multi-point Vehicle Inspection, you get a thorough assessment of your GM vehicle by GM-trained experts. Protect yourself and your automotive investment with a comprehensive, 27 point Multi-Point Inspection today.

    Our experts look for:
  • Tire wear
  • Remaining Engine Oil Life
  • Wiper Blades and Glass condition
  • Fluid levels
  • Brakes – measuring front and rear linings
  • Battery condition and connections, and more.

What is Simplified Maintenance?
Most 2004 and newer GM vehicle are equipped with the GM Oil Life System (GMOLS), a computer-based system that measures various engine and vehicle parameters to determine when an oil change is required. Your oil life system lets you know when your vehicle requires maintenance by displaying a “Change Oil” message on your dashboard. When that message appears, simply bring it to Jim Crivelli Chevrolet within the next 600 miles, so that our GM Goodwrench technicians can perform required maintenance and reset your oil life system to ensure that it continues to accurately measure your oil life remaining.

When you bring your GM vehicle in, we will likely perform one of two service packages – conveniently called Maintenance I and Maintenance II. We perform only the services that you need, depending on your current mileage and what services we did on your previous visit.

My vehicle is covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty. Why should I purchase a GM Protection Plan?
The manufacturer's warranty generally is for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Most customers drive their vehicles more than 36,000 miles in three years.

Consider purchasing the GM Protection Plan for your GM vehicle:
  • If you drive more than 1,000 miles monthly and plan to lease or finance your vehicle for more than 36 months, or
  • If you want to decrease your financial exposure to repair costs

I thought GM vehicles were good vehicles. Why do I need a GM Protection Plan?
GM vehicles are designed, assembled and tested to very high standards, but components used in today's vehicles are extremely complex and expensive to repair. Purchasing a GM Protection Plan provides financial security against the rising cost of unexpected repair expense. Today's GM Protection Plan will protect you against future costs for covered repairs.

What type of plans and coverages are available?
GM Protection Plan offers several levels of vehicle service and maintenance contract. View and compare available plans.

Are vehicles other than GM models covered under the GM Protection Plan?
Yes. Non-GM vehicles sold through GM dealers and affiliated GM dealers are covered.

Can the purchase price be included in my monthly vehicle payment?
Yes. The price of the contract can be included in your monthly payment. (Subject to any state regulation.)

Is there a money-back satisfaction guarantee?
Yes. You will receive a full refund if the GM Protection Plan is canceled within 60 days and there have been no claims filed. After 60 days, the refund amount is prorated based on time and mileage remaining. (An administrative fee may apply.)

Do I have to buy a service or maintenance contract at the time of vehicle purchase?
It depends. Vehicle service contracts may be purchased at any time while the manufacturer's warranty is still in effect. After the warranty has expired, a vehicle service contract may be purchased only at the time of vehicle purchase. Vehicle maintenance contracts can be purchased at any time.

Can I purchase a GM Protection Plan on a used GM car?
Yes, but your vehicle service contract must be purchased at the time you buy the vehicle.
